The short version

ContractorTechReview participates in affiliate programs run by some of the software platforms we review. When you click a link on this site and sign up for a platform, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. This does not change which platforms we recommend or how we rank them.

The longer version

This site is independently owned and operated by Kevin Given. There are no investors, no parent company, and no editorial oversight from any software vendor. The site is funded entirely through:

  1. Affiliate commissions from software platforms that have a public affiliate or partner program
  2. Display advertising (not currently running)
  3. Direct sponsorships (none currently — we will disclose prominently if this ever changes, and sponsored content will always be clearly marked as such)

How affiliate links work

When you click a link on this site that goes to a software platform's website and then sign up for a paid plan or, in some cases, just provide your contact information, the platform may pay us a referral commission. The commission comes out of the platform's marketing budget — your price is exactly the same whether you click our link or go to the platform directly.

The commission structures vary by program. Some are one-time payments per signup. Some are a percentage of the first year's revenue. A few are recurring commissions that pay as long as you remain a customer. None of this affects what you pay or what you receive.

How we keep affiliates from influencing recommendations

Affiliate commissions create an obvious conflict of interest. Here's how we manage it:

  1. Rankings are set before affiliate links are inserted. When I write a review or comparison, I rank platforms based on the criteria on the methodology page. The affiliate link only gets added after the ranking is locked in.

  2. We recommend platforms that don't pay us. Some platforms in this category — ServiceTitan, ServiceMinder, Service Fusion, FieldEdge, JobNimbus — either don't have public affiliate programs or only offer customer-referral programs that we don't qualify for. When one of those platforms is the right answer for a given trade or use case, we recommend it. The reviews for those platforms still exist; they just don't have an affiliate link at the end.

  3. We're transparent about which platforms pay us. Every review page includes a disclosure banner at the top. Beyond that, if you ever want to know which platforms we have active affiliate relationships with, here's the current list:

    • Jobber (via CJ Affiliate)
    • Housecall Pro (via PartnerStack)
    • FieldPulse (via PartnerStack)
    • QuoteIQ (via PartnerStack)
    • ServiceM8 (via PartnerStack)
    • Workiz (in-house program — application pending as of publication)

This list will be kept up to date. If we add or drop a program, this page changes.

  4. We say no to programs that require positive coverage. A small number of affiliate programs include language in their terms requiring partners to refrain from "negative reviews" or to coordinate content. We don't participate in those programs. Our reviews include real criticism of platforms that pay us.

What you can do

  • Comparison shop. Always look at the platform's actual pricing page directly. Our pricing tables are accurate as of the dates listed in each article, but pricing changes frequently in this category.
  • Ask the platform questions directly. Don't take any review site's word as final. If you're spending $1,000+/month on software, an hour on a vendor demo is worth it.
  • Trust your own experience over ours. Use free trials. Run your own small pilot. Our reviews are a starting point, not a substitute for evaluating the tool against your actual workflow.
